This site is primarily to educate and inform those interested in the architecture and design of this wonderful basilica. There must, however, be a degree of education about things Roman Catholic - for, to appreciate design, one must understand the purpose for which a thing is built.

Our purpose

It is early days but, initially, this site is designed to educate and inform.

Later, if the interest is there, the creation of a body such as 'The Friends of the Basilica' would be considered. Members might, for example, receive news and updates on such things as the work of earthquake strengthening - which will be undertaken in the future - and tours of behind the scenes to places in the church that aren't seen.
